I've been reading about this and it absolutely blew me out of the water.
If real, it means there is a huge variability in facial attractiveness intergenerationally.
Assortative mating has been, for the past 1000 years, a result of women searching guys who had a higher socio-economic status. And of course guys select intensively for beauty. Those genes for good looks were spread across the upper 50% of society. Now that assortative mating is less about socio-economic status, does that mean we'll have an elite of good looking people who will preserve their looks?
We know iq is highly heritable and also height because women select for taller men and taller men have always had greater advantage not just in dating but in establishing dominance over other men. If looks will be that important in a late capitalist society, I wonder how it will play out in forging the next generation of humans...
