In male pattern baldness is caused by DHT binding to hair follicles, can't we reduce balding by redirecting DHT to it's other purposes?

I haven't seen any discussion on "redirecting" DHT, only on reducing it.

Might be a good idea, but reducing androgen receptor sensitivity to androgens in the prostate gland is already used against prostate cancer. Now we need to figure out how to use the same mechanism on the scalp without going systemic, and causing serious side effects.

No, you are right. The research data have never been published. People on reddit tried to contact the people who conducted the research, allegedly they managed to speak to one of the researchers. Researcher said that he doesn't remember major safety concerns, thinks the research was stopped because of financial issues or bad marketability. The compound was quite effective when they used it in the 6 month trial, so he even suggested crowdfunding to make Prostrakan release the data or continue research.

That is all we know.

No. Topical finasteride reduces scalp DHT but also serum DHT. It goes systemic just like any other topical product. There is not much advantage in using topical finastride. You skip the first step metabolism, that is it.
