How much is usually needed for a visible difference? I understand each case is different but I keep seeing people mentioning massive 10+ mm advancements whereas I have seen people undergoing the surgery for a minor couple mm advancement. It's hard for me to visualize how much is usually done. I could not really find examples on the internet with specified measurements. Can someone here clear this out for me?

unrelated to thread, but op u will probably never have lefort done. no surgeon will ever do it unless ur actually deformed. lefort is psl cope.

I don't want a le fort tbh. I will get MSE+FM done however + a lower jaw surgery to match. It's just that MSE advances the midface by 0.5 mm and the facemask by about 2 mm in men (according to Ting). I am just wondering how significant would a 2.5 mm advancement be.

By the way Le Fort 1 is a common surgery (BIMAX is lefort + bsso duh) for the victims of camouflage orthodontics.

mse is virtually useless if you're over a certain age unless you have it surgically assisted, and again most orthodontists will not perform this unless you have a deformation of sorts. mse is also horrible as an adult as even if surgically assisted you still require a lingual appliance and further surgery to correct problems with the mse. mse is not as in-and-out as u think it is, not for adults. however lower jaw surgeries are much less high maintenance and if performed with great material and by a good surgeon, you will get the aesthetic results you want, usually lasting a good amount of time. unless you're a seasoned plastic surgery enthusiast, id recommend trying out fillers first, to understand the angles you want, and to see what exactly you'd like done without spending the money. only after fillers would i recommend even thinking about any of these other operations. im med student fyi.

Not sure where you got your MSE information from. I have never heard anything even vaguely similar to that. But yeah your "advice" to do fillers instead is absolutely laughable. You are derailing the thread by the way.

sorry for derailing thread, but go to any non-jew surgeon and they will 100% recommend trying fillers first. permanent changes to your face arent a game like they're made out in psl forums. actually go out in the real world and ask. you can ascend with an easy surgery sure, but would u rather risk changes that are barely reversible, or ones that dont change the shape of your face for the rest of your life? opt for the safe option first, op. last post here.

If anything only a pseudo-doctor would recommend fillers to fix a structural deformity. Not to mention they nearly always look like shit, especially on men. Pretty much every single victim of camouflage orthodontics needs actual surgeries to fix their issue and not some plastic bullshit. Also I hope you realize most people who have gone through camouflage orthodontics have severely compromised airways. How would your already aesthetically ridiculous fillers fix that?

I had a lefort 1 with a 5mm advancement, and a BSSO of 6mm. Anything over 10mm in either procedure is pretty extreme from what I've been told.

you're completely right, fillers dont fix structural deformities, but most people on these forums are simply unattractive for reasons unrelated to those that are structural, since they lie between angles considered normal, but maybe not ideal. only in that case would i suggest going for surgeries you suggest here, as an orthodontist would probably recommend that if at adult age anyway... that i mentioned in my second post. actual last reply. if want to continue pm me instead of reply in thread.

I had Lefort 1 with 5mm advance to correct underbite

I also would like to know the average. I can say with certainty that 10mm is on the higher end, and definitely considered a BIG movement when it comes to a lefort osteotomy. Generally speaking, it seems that maxiofacial surgeons try to limit the movement to whatever will alleviate their patients functional issues and not go far beyond that. I assume the bigger movements are more risky in terms of potential relapse, complications etc. I myself had a lefort several years ago for a very slight movement (only ~2mm I think) and looking back I wish I asked my surgeon to do more, (I would have aesthetically benefited from more advancement) but I trusted his judgment as I was very young then (18) and forums like this didn’t really exist yet. Also for what it’s worth, my surgery although conservative with it’s movement, has had virtually zero negative side effects such as numbness etc

Stop spreading bad info jesus christ
you can get a lefort I easily just for aesthetic reasons
and some surgeons will even perform modified leforts II & III on patients just for cosmetic purpose too.

Same with mse, there are orthos that offer it for just the cosmetic benefit you have no clue what you’re talking about.

holy shit buddy u psl lads are so deluded. lefort is a SERIOUS surgery that is much much more dangerous than getting a jaw implant. sure, u can definitely get a lefort i if you have a flat face or sunken teeth (although a carefully thought out premaxillary implant would probably fix the former better), but lefort ii and iii, cosmetically??? i invite u to talk this out with a team of surgeons and seeing what they have to say about it. unless you're willing to travel to turkey and having some scuffed bootleg surgeon performing it on you, you're completely not going to have lefort ii or iii done in the west, if you are considered NORMAL. end of story. apologize to op for completely buttfucking thread.

Stop back tracking jfl
I dont even need or want a lefort but you said surgeons will only perform if you’re deformed which is such bs.

many users here have had a lefort I, many surgeons offer it for purely cosmetic reasons in the west, its just more expensive so foreign surgeons are preferred.

I said MODIFIED Leforts II & III, stop acting like you can‘t read, massive differences in the cuts made and particularly risk in lefort II.

Yes I absolutely did. If I could go back and do it again though, I think ~5mm would have been perfect for me.

From what I know it's both cosmetic and medical at the same time. Unless I guess your teeth are already aligned properly but your maxilla is still set back?

I think at Kaiser their criteria for it to be medically covered was a certain number like 4mm misalignment. Kaiser paid everything & great cosmetic result. My surgeon even threw in a 6mm genio just for aesthetics.

@Sergio-OMS thoughts?

A lot of people here are actually structurally deformed beleive it or not. If you look at how flat somebody side profile is, thats how you tell.(like me)

ohh okay.. did your nerve heal okay afterwards... no permanent numbness or any bs?
I did not get it. But that is what he got. His mandible was entirely too forward grown to begin with, essentially meeting the tip of his nose. The majority of cases will not need one of the jaws moved back.

Yes I have some altered sensation in my lower right chin and lip but it's not completely numb.

@RealSurgerymax what mm minimum is required for lefort to actuall make an aesthetic difference and what's the upper/max limit in millimeters for bimax/trimax for each chin mandible and maxilla respectively?

lefort is the false prophet, Eppley skull implants are the real deal

Obviously that depends but usually maximums for lefort will be 7 or 8 millimters and even those will need bine grafts to not have a stepoff.

the typical one for occlusion is probably about 3 or 4 and not the noticeable noticeable.

BSSO maximum is about 10 or 12mm some surgeons would never even consider doing a BSSO that big

genio 6-8mm

These will be noticeable changes

So how noticeable would a 10mm maxilla advancement be?
