A lot of people know this but some still dont and I see them completely unaware of a lot of their failos.
Basically you are used to how you look both in the mirror and in selfies so your brain will hide imperfections and asymmetries from you so you dont feel as subhuman. What you are not used to is seeing both side by side or in quick succession so your brain cant adjust in time. You might also do things such as tilting your head so you fool yourself even more into believing you are symmetrical when in fact you have severe asymmetries but this becomes very noticeable if you..

Just take a selfie then flip it but pls dont rope.

Depending on how subhumanly asymmetrical you are it might be very disturbing for you so be warned. This is why sometimes extremely deformed people dont even realize something is wrong with them until somebody else mentions it to them. This is mainly for asymmetries (symmetry is obviously very important) but other bad features might stand out more to you as well if you do this

no he doesnt. He looks like in the second pic. Most red carpet photos are edited in his favor and he knows how to fraud it b tilting his head. If he is caught unaware or if the photo is unedited it is brutal. Shooting with him is very difficult because they constantly have to account for his asymmetry.

Talking about eye asymmetry because its the worst. When you look at yourself in the mirror you tilt your head because you subconsciously know youre asymmetrical and you do the same before taking a selfie. But when others photograph you in motion you dont do it so your head will be straight and your asymmetries apparent.

I will tell you one more time... All what matters is how you look in motion, not picture.

Looks very good in motion, nobody notices this shit. I noticed same irl, one of my old friends had really bad nose and eye asymmetry in pictures, yet i never noticed it irl.

You never see Cooper straight on in these interviews. He is always recorded at an angle to hide the asymmetry.

Yep pretty much subhuman. Crooked nose.. Jaw is not even symmetric. Im think im doomed.

I find I look great in selfies, horrific when flipped.. like legit sub fucking human 100% but in motion, I look decent again so idek. I read a study that most people think they're much more attractive than they actually are because of mirrors.

I used to be obsessed over this and thought I was the ugliest fucker on earth, but It doesn't really matter and I'll tell you why. Loads of people are asymmetrical but we don't notice because we are used to seeing them the way they are. it's like how you are used to seeing yourself in the mirror and your brain filters out all the asymmetries, it's this only for other people. If you take a celebrity's face (even a gl celebrity) and look at it through a mirror it will look totally alien and asymmetrical af. So it doesn't even matter if you are symmetrical or not because to others you look like the way you see yourself in the mirror, but flipped. Only they are used to it.

Jensen Ackles, what he looks like to us (What we're used to seeing. This is what his brain is not used to seeing, unless he watches himself in movies / tv religiously)

His face through a mirror (what his brain is used to seeing, but we are not. To him he looks completely normal this way)

Look how fucking alien his face looks now holy shit

It's all in your head. You look more normal than you think even if you are looking at a flipped version of your face. It's actually the mirrored version of your face that you see in the mirror every morning that looks weird and abnormal to other people, but not to yourself

Take an cat and look at him at Mirror.. You can see how weird his face looks. but when you see him in Irl.. His face looks normal.. It is just brain fart. Nobody notices your flaws in real life.. Only in the sides they arent used to see you.

This might be true about people you see often but when you first see someone you notice it instantly and unfortunately that can be a big turn off. I have asymmetrical eyes and I did not realize until I was 16 years old. It never occurred to me but people had hinted at it multiple times before until I finally noticed it myself so it means people absolutely do notice

Well, then it must be an extreme case of assymetry. Because you don't really notice it if it's mild. My condolences

Exactly, proves my point. I think asymmetries are only noticeable first hand if they are extreme

It happened like 3 times or so over the course of 5 years it might have been people who look for these things they might have it themselves but now I am aware of my own I notice it a lot in others even if its mild. Start paying attention to this with people you first meet. But once you start noticing it in some people it will be hard to stop yourself from checking for this in everyone. And the people that saw this in me obviously did not say it straight up but instead gave hints because they know it would have been rude. The reason I worry about it is that I am sure girls will see these things a lot more easily and quickly cause they are so used to covering up their minor imperfections

Put your mom in front of a mirror and you’ll see nothing but your mom. Look at the selfie of a bitch on Instagram and then back camera pic and you’ll see no difference. The brain don’t care, except for yourself because you’re used to see you from the front only and you’re used to every contours.

You probably have a severe asymmetry if people can actually notice it IRL
Brutal

My nose has a deviated septum and no one have ever said anything about it IRL, not even my friends who are used to throw shit at each other/me

So being called out for having an asymmetry is a red flag tbh, it only happens when its really - and I mean REALLY obvious.

Good post

But thoughts on this?
No it’s actually more complicated (and the answer is the contrary).

They say they don’t even see a difference between both. But that’s only because they’ve always seen your flaws. The only case where someone else would ever think you look worse in a mirror is if they’ve been exposed to your face constantly for a very long time. To strangers, acquaintances, and most friends, you will look the same in both, but only because your flaws are equally apparent in both.

And you only start to recognize these flaws everyone else sees once you see yourself in pictures, video, or a “true” mirror.

This has already happened twice with me in PMs on this website.

In one case someone had a noticeable eye asymmetry. He tells me he never noticed until he flipped the image on his phone. He says his family says he looks the same in both and it’s driving him crazyHe sends me both and asks me if I see a difference between the two, and asks me how noticeable his eye asymmetry is.

I told him
a. both pictures are the same to me.
b. your symmetry is equally bad and noticeable In both pictures.
c. You just have been used to seeing yourself in the mirror your whole life, so due to the mere exposure effect, you never truly grasped how noticeable your flaws are. Everyone else sees your flaws equally whether they be in a mirrored image or in the real thing.

So it’s not that seeing yourself in a true mirror or pictures exaggerates your flaws, on the contrary, seeing yourself in a regular mirror your entire life has numbed your brain from being able to recognize the flaws you actually have.
A true mirror is literally the best way along with an in motion video from a good distance without lens distortion. It’s the most accurate. If you think your brain is “exaggerating” imperfections, you’re honestly and respectfully, coping. Unless you’re diagnosed with BDD, all you will see is the reality of what you look like.
