I don't think either side will be willing to use nukes even after the war starts. Both sides will try to win on the battlefield in Eastern Europe but NATO isn't going to try to take Moscow.

To anyone who thinks it sounds like a ridiculous fantasy that war could break out, Ukrainians and Russians thought the same before 2022.

Let's look at the big picture. Neither Russia nor Ukraine are willing to compromise. Both sides will keep fighting and the West will keep sending weapons to Ukraine for as long as it takes according to their own words. Russia is losing huge numbers of soldiers in Ukraine. Do you think Russia is just going to let that situation continue forever?

I could see war breaking out this way: Russia launches a single missile strike at a weapons manufacturing facility in a NATO country to test NATO's resolve, expecting NATO to get scared and then push for Ukraine to negotiate fast to end the war. Instead what could happen is NATO calls the bluff and responds with military force, then you have full-blown war. Both sides know that neither side will use nukes because it would lead to mutual destruction. Russia already believes it has enough reason to declare war on NATO right now, it's only a matter of time.

Fearmongering about a potential global conflict has ramped up over the last decade (remember the WW3 shit after Soleimani was killed?) If Russia wanted to then they would have attacked when countries like Finland joined NATO (they could invade baltic nations easily). It’s also not like Russia can divert troops from Ukraine and field them elsewhere, they’ve already wasted so many valuable resources and troops to get assfucked by 50 year old ukies. Nato is at its peak in terms of strength, if the USSR never attacked nato then the likelihood of Russia doing it is that much lower. Globally speaking, instability in MENA is a bigger threat to the west if anything.
