there will be post-extinction ages where only bunch of people live in spaceships looking for new home. they have created a stablized recycled spaceship and that maintain itself. they live in spaceship and reproduce and go for ages to find a new planet.

maybe. but there could be some sort of limit to intelligence, like the more intelligent you get the greater the chance of going insane or completely collapsing into your own mind or being severely autistic or something like that.
