Yup and then some. Poker's the pop in the rock. Commissary's called money. Noodles (soup,) chips, sodas...even a bar of soap is money. Coffee's a high commodity. They sell it in nickles. Thus coffee bombs. Peanuts, protein, a big seller to the musculatures. Anyway, when you go in and have no money on the account; they're gonna shake you down. First set you up. Toss you some noodles. You'll think its on the house. Its not. Nothing's on the house. But if you think you can buy your way through it, think again. Once the gangs find out you have a steady flow of commissary. They're gonna really shake your ass down. Dick in your ass and mouth, or pay up! Or the better alternative, living punching bag. Eventually, the word will get out and they'll all start shaking you down. It'll cost your family a salary to keep your ass tight. The money will make them happy. So they'll start competing for you. Get you hooked on some dope. BOOM! Now you're really fucked. In the end, you'll lose. That's why when you go in - either make sure you're gonna stay in the hole - solitary - or get smart! And that means, 24 hours of thinking constantly. Trying to stay ahead of the game. Or just don't participate. Starve yourself. Read books. They won't fuck with you if they don't see you. And buying commissary or running your fucking mouth, will cause attention.
