I'm thinking when I get to college I want to major in math. It seems like an incredibly versatile major, as math majors can land jobs in industries such as finance, tech, business, etc. Plus I am also good at my high school math (I am 2 years ahead in Honors and can maintain an A without much effort), and I am learning proofs on my own, which are essential.

Is it worth it boyos?

No, it is NOT.

Reason: you are either GOOD at math, or you SUCK at math.

Do not listen to Nerds on Math.stackexchange who say you can "learn" math. You CAN'T.

And if you graduate with a Math degree, but cannot prove shit, cannot reason logically, and cannot apply your math knowledge, it will be the most useless major one could take. You need to be 120+ IQ AND you need to LIVE MATH.

PS. Another side effect of Math majors, this is the NERDIEST of all majors. Forget about young luscious girlfriends. This will be your girlfriend for the next 4 years:

Really? How did it turn out for you after college?
i was brutally depressed in uni due to the fact that i got rejected by every foid i approached. but my classmates, they are mostly successful people.
idc about success, i think math is beautiful.

kinda true, there is nothing to be learned. logic is logic, only the presentation ( the language of numbers and symbols) need to be learned.

Then legit choice. But do you LIKE it?

University math is completely different from school math.

TBH, i think the majority of people would prefer engineering, which is actually fun, over math, when they learned what the "math is all about" :feelsrope:

Try reading the first chapter of Baby Rudin
220px-Principles_of_Mathematical_Analysis.jpg

And see if you actually like it. Most math majors wank to this like it is some kind of Sasha Grey porn. Because they like the challenge that this book gives, and they like the numbers. :feelsokman:

I'm currently reading a discrete math text, just to get comfortable with logic and proofs.

It is indeed a good major, you can then switch to almost any engineering career later on, and do well. Plus you have an added halo because math majors are well known to require decent IQ meaning more job opportunities.

Not true at all. I am a math major and the workload is almost nothing compared to other STEM majors, at least if you're good at it.

Open the book i sent you. It is for grown ups, and gives you an idea what you will be dealing with. Do the first chapter with exercises.

Do all exercises till page 23.

If you read everything, and do most exercises, then you are well cut for maths. If you don't then well... maybe engineering is better for you.

Dont math major whatever you do , stop listening to the autist math majors

Not worth it just go something like Economics
then maintain a good gpa..will make it easy to transition to MBA or Law school
will give you flexibility to go to I-Banking or Biglaw

assuming you want to wageslave that is

Yeah, but I'm not sure exactly what field I want to work in, I just want it to involve math and quantitative reasoning.

If you like Math then just to the Economics degree with some Math based electives
If you REALLY love Numbers you can always do Qualitative Finance as a masters later on and you can walk into pretty much any Investment banking role

But starting out and doing Math is not worth it, cos they grade on curves and its way harder to get into a good grad ( as opposed to an easier undergrad like Economics)

Econ is an oversaturated Major. Its fit for some and not fit for others. Plus the value of your economics major degree highly depends on your college.

A Math Degree is more functional and flexible.
Plus it is relevant to adding value.
Companies are always on the lookout for Math Majors.

Totally depends on where your studying and what he wants to do later in life
Know how many MD's at Morgan Stanley are Math majors ? erm basically none
Most if not all are Econ/Poli Sci or similar

You need life skills as well as number skills to go someplace, Math degree will stunt this kid and make him even more autist

Dont trap this poor soul into thinking that he can do well in a classroom with his non subjective degree and that he will translate that to the real fucking world
It just doesnt happen

Was there any president with a Math degree? I rest my case

There is no correlation between the type of Major you do and the job position you can become.
yes of course life skills do matter where did I deny that?

I'm not a math major, but I know Math majors aren't lifeless soulless folks. Most math majors have fine social lives like most other people. The ones you see on movies are heavily stereotyped and falsified to the moon.

OP likes math, he has stated his clear interest it, why are you forcing him to be something he has no interest in.
This is not a rat race.

And about your statement about not being a Director at Morgan Stanley, they don't just become MDs just like that. They have the grind in them to keep working 12 hours a day despite not being a junior analyst anymore, despite being a senior associate and despite being a VP. they continue to work rigorously.

You seem to have a falsified image of the banking industry.
I have literal close friends working at big firms, We are regularly in touch. Let me know if you need any direct intel or information.

You think a degree major is what decides where you get in life

when in reality its the people u know

go work on your excel sheet, and dont forget to update ur jira incel

Math is such a mogger major it's super high IQ and you can go into lots of different fields like C.S and finance afterwards

If you're really good at it and you go into grad school afterwards you become a quant, which is probably the job with the highest pay potential without starting your own business.

Basically.

But also, don't underestimate the power of the name of the institute you go to. A school recognized nationwide or even statewide will net you better recruiting opportunities and that school will have better networking opportunities.

Too many people can't find jobs after college because they don't go to high tier universities. A math major with hard work will get you places, but don't expect to reach significantly above average in terms of salary and prestige at all.

If you are in applied Math and you combine it with another skill its amazing just don't learn theoretical stuff for 10 years though. Unless if your 160 IQ you won't be changing Math as a field.

True I am a fuck up loser who has messed up more times then I can count and my HS friend managed to get me a good job.

Whereas someone poor with zero connections if they fucked up as bad as me would be homeless. Having well off friends and parents is more like a second chance if anything. A poor person has one shot to make it if they do something dumb like drop out of Uni then its over whereas for me I can go back anytime I like and keep trying.

Its not are u crazy ? You are basically choosing one of the hardest degrees that will make you no money after you graduate.

Just go to med school to save your life, only if you are too stupid for that, then try compsci since it has the most potential for jobs and wages, it even has some funny (but totally unnecessary for the job) maths to entertain you like calc3 and lineer algebra.

Again, med school is first choice, advanced math is useless in real life.
