Hello everyone. On various forums, people claim that minoxidil is an anti-androgen and that minoxidil has a negative effect on libido. There are only 2 studies where Minoxidil suppress androgen receptors and blocks dht.

The effort began in the late 1950s, when the Upjohn Company developed a chemical compound in pursuit of a new ulcer treatment. In trials using dogs, the compound did not help ulcers, but it did lower blood pressure. Upjohn synthesized more than 200 variations of the compound, including the one it made in 1963 and named minoxidil.

The company then requested, and received, permission from the F.D.A. to test the new drug as medicine for hypertension. It asked one of its consultants, Charles A. Chidsey, to study minoxidil at the University of Colorado’s medical school in Denver, where he was a professor. In early 1971, Dr. Chidsey observed hypertrichosis on patients who had taken the drug for hypertension. He asked the advice of a colleague at the school, Dr. Kahn, and Dr. Kahn’s medical resident, Dr. Paul J. Grant.

Dr. Kahn and Dr. Grant began examining the patients, including a woman who was sprouting hair all over her body. When they administered minoxidil to others, hair sprouted on their bodies.

“Right off the bat,” Dr. Grant told The Miami Herald in 1988, referring to Dr. Kahn, “he said, ‘Boy, this would be great stuff if we could apply it to the top of heads.’ ”

So they set about blending minoxidil in a solution that could be applied topically, and they hit on just the right formula.

There is not a single anti-androgen that causes hypertrichosis. All known anti-androgens decrease body hair growth. But there are strong vasodilators(potassium channel openers) like diazoxide, pinacidil. They lower blood pressure and also cause hypertrichosis(hair growth everywhere)
Example --> if Minoxidil was hormonal/AR connected, how could hair on both body and scalp grow? we know DHT is needed for male pattern hair growth and loss so you can't grow both parts by messing with DHT and AR

How after so many years there is not a single human study that would check whether minoxidil is actually anti-androgen or not?https://www.researchgate.net/public..._suppress_androgen_receptor-related_functions https://www.researchgate.net/public...sion_in_a_Human_Keratinocyte_Cell_Line.Please dissect the studies and share your opinion.Let’s put an end to this shit😬

not proven, otherwise why the fuck does it promote beard growth?

Not an anti androgen, it just promotes hair growth

it is said to be a minor anti androgen, but you shouldn't worry about since it is{ if real} a very minor change on your hormonal profile

Human Biologist here. No it does not. It works a different mechanism than DHT blocking.
