There is not a single latino country that has the AVERAGE person in that country looking white european and not mixed. We’re talking about perception of “Whiteness” of course it has to be anecdotal, YOU don’t want it to move from anecdotal because when it goes into DNA testing then regardless of which latino country the average person is going to come out as at least 25% non-white and you immediately lose.

It doesn’t have anything to do with race in the sense that any race can be Latino, but it has a LOT to do with race in the sense of what races the average latino is.

There’s 2 main types of latino, hispanic mixed with native and hispanic mixed with black. The average races are so prevalent that they become identifiable as their own race, for example a mexican/honduran/etc is just a guy who’s part white and part native but that mix is so distinctive and prevalent there that you can identify that guy as that type of latino.

You might be kinda weird in Mexico but in Puerto Rico you’d just be a Puerto Rican. And again that mix of hispanic and black is so prevalent that you’d be instantly identifiable as a Puerto Rican or a Dominican etc etc despite the fact that it’s not TECHNICALLY its own race.

I understand where the dissonance is because in places like Mexico they’re constantly telling the darker ones “oh you’re native” and constantly telling the lighter ones “oh you’re white,” same in puerto rico with black etc etc, but they gotta understand that outside of outliers who genuinely look 100% white or 100% black, and outside of that space, everyone will just identify them as Latino, or specifically Mexican, Puerto Rican etc.
