Most optos are lying regarding the axial shortening just like they tell balding is caused due to dht. But dht gets trapped in skull due to skull shape in the first place. Rounded skull will lose hair. Same way i think some underlying mechanism can help reversing axial length too .

I don't really know myself but I would assume reading, screen time and not enough sun during childhood
