Well, what the doctor said to an extent has to be partially untrue, as you can't give yourself acromegaly if you have open growth plates.
You can only experience acromegaly if you have high IGF-1 and HGH levels in the presence of closed growth plates and ended longitudinal bone growth.

You also cannot differentiate height growth from HGH and puberty, either way. Once you begin taking HGH, there's no actual way to confirm whether you got growth because of the HGH or do to normal pubertal timings. The only thing that can help give a clue is if we look at his previous growth rate and bone age, but that's not accurate.

Not saying this story is false or a sham, just somethings about it don't make sense in the realm of reason.
