I keep seeing this meme that these disorders are somehow because of how smart you are and that you take into account more risks behind social situations for example and thus become more anxious. There is also a myth that being smart somehow hampers you with girls. This is a complete and utter myth. Being smart helps you to get girls. Because higher IQ people tend to be more depressed and anxious, a lot of people think that being smart implies a higher likelihood of anxiety and depression.
Here's the misconception here: IQ DOES NOT = being good at controlling cognitive biases and thus does not equal being smart in the first place. It only means that you are good at finding patterns. Now, if you are great at finding patterns, it is good for solving puzzles and many other things that can help you succeed in a life dominated by jobs that require solving these puzzles, which is why IQ is a good predictor of success.
However, when it comes to controlling emotional and cognitive biases, IQ has no effect. There have been studies done that show that higher IQ people are less willing to change their mind. This is crucial for many of the idiots here who for example refuse to change their mind on how personality does actually matter and end up wasting decades jacking off to porn because they think they're not good looking enough to date women. Go outside. There are many people who are not chads dating good looking women. "The researchers also assessed intelligence. They found that people who scored more highly on the intelligence test showed just as much of the cognitive bias as the rest. They found no link between intelligence and myside bias." What does this all mean? What this means is that depression and anxiety are fundamentally stupid and that you are not as smart as you think if you have either one of these. Just think about it. When is depression or anxiety ever rational? If you are in front of a woman and want to somehow date her, is it more advantageous for you to be confident or be anxious? It is smarter to be confident. If an anxious person like this scores a 150 on his IQ test, it doesn't change the fact that his actions are dumb when it comes to talking to women. Note that I'm not saying that anxiety or depression is in your control. It is often, if not always, not in your control anyways. I am simply responding to this idea that being anxious or depressed is a result of being "too smart". It is not since they are both fundamentally irrational.
