Planning to have ptosis surgery on one eyelid for better symmetry.

I’ve read about Hering’s Law of Equal Innervation, which means the “normal” eyelid may drop a little after the drooping eyelid is corrected. I’ve heard this effect can be noticeable

I wanted to ask anyone who has had ptosis surgery:
  1. Did you notice your other eyelid drooping after surgery?
  2. Did your surgeon take Hering’s Law into account?
  3. Overall, are you happy with the results despite minor differences?

Hi. Had the surgery 12-02-2026

My surgeon did take into account Herings Law and advised me to get surgery on both eyes so that he could make adjustments for improved symmetry. Apparently when he fixed the ptosis eye the other one did droop so he was able to go in and slightly raise the better eye.
I also had some excess skin and he was able to remove this from both eyes to tighten the eyelid appearance.

Would recommend a Levator resection (incision in eyelid) over the Mullerectomy (done without an incision) as the results are better and the surgeon has more control and it allows them to adjust the position of the eyelid crease. I assume if you're on here you maybe want to get rid of UEE so it's really important you get LR,

I'm only two weeks out and pretty happy so far. I still feel I have a bit of asymmetry but I think that is due to the fact one of my eyebrows is still raised a little higher which it did to compensate for the ptosis and it hasn't fully relaxed yet. I'm hoping to fix that with Botox after I get the all clear from my surgeon. I still have minor swelling too.

mirin bro, glad youre happy with it, hopefully ill have simillar results. im doing consults here and there but have to go to a eye specialist to see if its a muscle or nerve issue. Its all taking long and the waiting times are 125 days :feelswhy: im rly tring to get it done ASAP so i might try to go elsewhere and speed up the process (or go to a plastic surgeon)

it seems like your surgeon is pretty good, what country you from?

How long were your waiting times and what was the process you went with?

I'm based in the UK. I went to Dr Yadav.
Www.theeyeguy.co.uk. He runs a clinic in Liverpool 2 days a week, I contacted him for a free video consult in November and he said I'd be a good candidate. After that I paid £50 for an in person consult in December which was when he recommended I do both eyes. I actually could have had the surgery the week before Christmas but decided to wait until February as I needed to save a little more. In total cost £3500.

He does work for the NHS too but he said in the NHs they'd likely have only operated on one eye and I would have waited over a year so I decided to pay.

What about using upneeq or Iopidine instead for a temporary fix?

They don't really sell it in the U.K. so never tried it. I knew I wanted a surgical eventually so I never tried to buy it grey market

Hi I had the surgery Feb 2025, I had a Levator resection done so to answer your questions. 1. Yes it did droop but not noticeably 2. My ledt eyelid was slightly under corrected and I am having a revision done, planned in the next 13 months. I'am not sure if the surgeon did take it into consideration. Sadly it felt rushed and my surgeon was a dick, paid no attention during the consultation and measured my eyes 10 min before surgery with minimal precision whilst I was laying down and took 0 pictures. Though it was expected because it was state funded. 3. Yea it's so much better, ptosis is such a subhuman failo and any improvement helps. Would recommend 100%. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Preciate the reply :HYPERSL:

Surgeon indeed sounds like a dick, shouldve cared more about precision. Atleast it was free

I actually had my consult last tuesday, my surgery is planned on June 9th. Surgeon suggested to do a correction on both eyes to prevent herings law from happening. Im getting a 2mm correction on my Ptosis eye and 1mm on my other eye. Im not sure if i want 1mm because that might be a overcorrection. He said his main goal was creating a less tired look, while my main goal is fixing asymmetry. Im paying the surgery myself, its 2000 euros.

How many mm did your surgeon do on you?
