Yes. Corporeal punishment is legal in many countries. I've been hit by my parents when i was younger for the reasons you mentioned.
however, i do not agree with it. Dialogue is the best mode of resolving conflict. if corporeal punishment is applied too liberally the child will subliminally incorporate violent acts - whether they are physical or verbal, as a way of resolving conflict in their adult life which is not only often illegal but undermines their ability to form relationships with anyone. dark triad personality is a meme.
