Back in the 70s, the Americans actually put as ambassador to Romania, a black guy who was a former ambassador to some African countries, this was considered deeply disrespectful and insulting, it strained the diplomatic relations for several years, it was like the Americans considered us a 3rd world country like Africa or something, can you imagine what would happen it they would do this thing to China or Russia for example?

That's how it was perceived, Romania was communist back then, in the 60s it started to become more progressive and liberal, but in the 70s it started to emulate North Korea and become more cut from the outside world, it was probably a way for the Americans to show us we mean nothing to them...
