His name is Viorel Milcu, he was a medical assistant and for decades raped probably hundreds of women by sedating them, he was very careful not to leave any traces, and seemed like a model citizen to everybody. He was eventually reported by a teenage girl and dozens of women came forward, but the total number of rapes is probably much larger. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison and got out recently after 4 for good behavior...

The punishment for multiple crimes is not added like in other countries, only the longest sentence is considered, you do one rape or a dozen of rapes - it's the same prison sentence, you steal once or a hundred times - the same.

He's free now, but he's sued left and right in civil courts by his victims, they're gonna take everything from him, in the old days this was unheard of, now it seems this is even a greater punishment than prison - you might get away in some specific circumstances with a suspended sentence for rape, assault, unintentional murder, etc., but in civil court you could be forced to pay huge damages that would bankrupt you for life.
