depend what type of ship captain, if it involve you staying on sea more than few days, just go for software engineer

Depends , it's a very hard choice . For someone irl, a general normie that wants to just moneymax and live a decent life, I'd say genuinely do ship stuff for like 10yrs, make all that bank, and then you can become a software dev since it's pretty forgiving to start late on/not needing to get uni degree. You can also probably practice while on the ship since there wont be smth to do all 24hrs. For looksmaxxers, there's also the question about "looks prime" and shit like that, cause on ship you'll be away for like 8-9 months a year unless you're doing commercial (is that how it's called?) travels (back and forth to islands and shit). So it wont be worth to piss away your life, and might become worth to work from home with software dev flexibility and invest on your prime yrs looks wise.

At the same time, you can also argue that you can just retire with good money from ship stuff at like 30-35 and betabuxx very well. Idk really
