Genrikh Yagoda

Served as director of NKVD, predecessor of KGB, and he organized the massacre of up to 10-20 million of his countrymen. He is also the founder of the GULAG imprisonment system and planned the genocidal starvation of Ukrainians, Holodomor which claimed the lives of up to 3-14 million. Why is this man never talked about in history books? Much of his atrocities are always credited to Stalin, when they were explicitly his ideas. He was purged by Stalin, allegedly he confessed to conspiring to poison Stalin and other members of Soviet Politburo, the highest executive committee of Soviet Union.

that's based though. Western media just exaggerates how bad they were. every american prison today has basically forced slave labor.

making alcoholics, good for nothings and revolutionists work until they developed a good work-ethic and could be re-introduced as a valuable member to society was a good move.

The thing is, most of them were not going to be introduced back to society. The working conditions were completely inhumane and the food was atrocious. Like piece of rotten bread and thin soup. You could get more food by working extra hard, but you would spend more calories than you would gain, so you would just starve faster.

I recommend watching this movie called: The way back, a great movie of a true story escape from a Siberian Gulag.
