Actually it's a massive cope in Western countries.

Studies have found that women prefer a more androgynous look in Western societies. It's because Western societies provide safety, security and stability. In more hostile environments like Mexico, it would make sense that evolutionary cues which signal high fighting success (i.e. high androgen sensitivity and high t lead to changes in FACIAL morphology that women subconsciously pick up on) are favoured over prettyboys.
