There is a lot of fuckery that goes into the numbers in many jurisdictions, particularly large cities . Large cities uniformly under report most every minor "violent crime" by labeling as something else, creating a public relations and political fiction.

The only numbers that are useful for an apples to apples to comparison of different States are homicide numbers because they are very accurate and difficult to mislabel.
