Well, not complete picture. Yes, they do tactical suicide bombings. The fact they have captured few villages already, show they do find conventionally like guns vs guns. But yes i get what you mean, they mostly use pashtun suicide bombers within the area they wanna control and cause chaos. Make easy to access. i do think america weapons left behind play a big role too. 81BILLION worth top quality weapons.
