The court was told that Terrell lived a double-life, one as the privileged son of a media consultant father and interior designer mother, and the other as a gangster known as 'white boy' and 'milk'.
Social media showed that while Terrell was with his family he enjoyed fishing trips to Mexico, dirt biking and playing board games at the $1.8million home he shared with his parents in the upmarket community of Palos Verdes Estates.
But while hanging out with his friends, Terrell spent his time starring in the background of rap music videos, with lyrics espousing a lifestyle of drug-taking, violence and crime.
The court was told that on October 1, 2017, Terrell drove two 16-year-old friends to South Los Angeles in a black Mercedes that was bought for him by his father.
He parked up near the scene of the murder and let the teenagers out of his car, before waiting for them around the corner.
Police say the two teen approached a group of three men, including Holmes, and asked them where they were from, believing them to be rival gang members.
The court heard that one of the teens pulled a silver revolver from his hoodie pocket, at which point one of Holmes' friends shouted 'run'.
As the group fled one of the teens is accused of firing multiple shots, hitting Holmes in the back, the LAPD said.
Holmes' friends ran to a nearby shop and asked the owner to call police before staying with him as medics arrived. He was taken to hospital but died of his wounds.
Holmes was a college student who was working a steady job. Neither he nor his friends had any gang affiliations.
Meanwhile the teens ran back to Terrell's car and jumped in before he drove them away from the scene.
Terrell later recorded a video of the pair kicking over candles at a memorial for Holmes and even sang rap lyrics glorifying the killing, ABC7 reported.
Around two weeks after the slaying police arrested the two juveniles and Terrell, who was questioned by officers.
