I believe that every free man (not incarcerated) should be able to buy, sell, own and carry firearms. Fully automatic weapons should be fully legal. Buying firearms of any kind should only require showing, not scanning, your ID to show that you're 18 years of age. Permitless carry should be the law of the land. Teachers should receive bonuses for carrying concealed weapons. And lastly, the ATF should be abolished.

Yes, and we aren't an island nation like Australia, Japan, New Zealand, or the UK. Our border to the south is the most crossed border in the world, and that's only counting the legal crossings. If we cannot keep people or drugs out of our nation what makes anyone believe we could ever keep guns out? And with such a culture any mandatory buy backs would be disregarded by most gun owners. We wouldn't comply and would gladly become criminals overnight. In many states like Washington etc., where laws have sprung up limiting magazine capacity or pistol braces sherrifs and local police departments have come out with statements saying they will absolutely not enforce those laws.

Americas probably the country with the most armed citizens in the world, it's very normal for a household to have an entire Arsenal of firearms, and so I was just thinking that would make a civil war in America insanely destructive. And it's entirely possible given how divided the country is between right and left. It's entirely plausible (not saying likely) that a conservative army general could refuse orders of the president and have military units act on their own and before you know it you got a civil war.
Yes, that's why the military could not win against its own population here. And you're right about the households. I have four handguns. My father has two AR-15s, one AK-47, more than 30 handguns, and dozens of other shotguns/rifles.
