with regards to meds/balkans/ee they're white but a different white tbh
idk if I can explain my perspective well, but in places like canada/america, whites from places like england, germany, netherlands, scandinavia, france/western europe in general assimilate into a "I'm a white canadian/american" identity whereas people from other places in europe retain their identity more, like if you ask someone from anglo/german etc. background what they are they'll just say white, ask someone from ee/balkans/south europe who are 1st/2nd/3rd generation here what they are they'll say what they are first instead of white

at least this has been my experience, in my middle/high school the balkan/italian/greek ppl hung out more often with middle easterners instead of with the 'canadian' whites (the canadian whites never hung out with them and funnily enough, the canadian white groups had more blacks/indians/asians in it than middle easterners/balkans/ee/italian/greek/etc.)
