Maybe its for use during the fertilization process. Or maybe its just the mood change that makes them less able to resist stuffing their face. When your body starts using more energy than normal you will get hungry, and the reproductive system is very expensive so it uses up a lot of energy and women are naturally supposed to be at a sort of high body fat % anyways, especially before and during pregnancy. I know that if women dont eat a lot and get low body fat it messes with their hormones and makes it difficult to get pregnant or to stay pregnant.
