Why don't younger people use the swimming pool?

Ancedotal, but I joined this swimming facility in a suburban area near where I live, and almost everyone there is over 60. Being the 40 year old, I am one of the "younger" people... And while they do have some kids under 17 who take swimming lessons, the ones that swim for leisure purposes is always the older adult crowd. Is swimming associated with something old people do? I have to use the locker room (you're required to shower) and these naked older men let it all hang out and talk to me about the weather and how my swim was. I just like to get dressed and use the pool.

I do have to admit ,that the pool has a little too much cultural enrichment lately.
