I'm 18 same position but I have been close with girls and had some flirting with them. I think looks 100% play a part but I've seen guys that look worse than me with girlfriends. However, as someone else said they are very rarely better looking than the guy, and if they are it is because he has compensated for his looks in another department. You can do the same.
