I know there are a lot of accutane topics here, but I want to share my experience, maybe someone has experienced something similar.

- My skin has really improved (and it's only been two months!).

But I would like to talk about the side effects. I was taking 40mg and then switched to 30mg:

1. Anxiety. I'm a pretty anxious person, so my worrying and obsessing over little things increased. I even had a panic attack, which I've never had before, but there was also a reason there for that.

2. I didn't experience depression, I'm still madly in love with life like I don't know who. But I have started having more mood swings. My mood can sometimes be ruined by some little thing.

3. Headaches. They are infrequent and not severe, but they are quite uncomfortable and long lasting, before they were almost non-existent.

Otherwise, I am really satisfied. The clear skin is definitely worth it. Clear skin is life.

One more thing: memory. It's like I've become more forgetful. But it's not very pronounced

Anytime tretinoin is better for long term as it doesn't have high side effects like accutane. I was on accutane for sometime but then shifted to tret from skinorac as it was very hard on my skin.

tret isn't so effective as accutane. I've been using tret, then it stopped working on my skin

did you finish the cycle? what dosage and how long did you take?

yes, it's brutal, but I think in my case it's worth all the side effects, as living with severe acne is even more brutal

As someone who works in dermatology, Accutane is a good drug and likely your only choice if you have cystic acne. If you do not have deep cysts/nodules (i.e. pimples that never come to a head and last weeks) you don't really need it- topical retinoid works fine and less side effects. Also, the depression thing is made up. None of the doctors actually believe that it will make you depressed. If anything, having horrible cystic acne will make you a lot more depressed.

thanks for the info. but i'm pretty sure the studies saying accutane doesn't cause anxiety/depression are paid for. doctors have never taken it to say anything. and evidence like: the suicide rate in the accutane group was lower than the general population is rubbish, because is suicide the only thing that determines anxiety and depression?

however i don't have cystic acne, i have moderate acne. i've been using topical retinoid and a ton of other treatments for a long time, but over time it stops working, and it gets worse after the sun. so accutane is my last resort and I'm glad I made it.

If my skin is not better by autumn, i‘m hoping on
