I can tell his frame was terrible anyways
 
He must have balls of steel or been very reckless to dive into a riptide. Those currents can pull you under and drag you miles out into the ocean. He probably didn’t have much experience with that kind of danger. My hometown is also on the coast, but we almost never hear of incidents like this. I’ve heard of tourists drowning before, but being attacked by a sea creatures literally unheard of

The middle is the danger zone you can technically escape by swimming to the sides which are safe but only strong swimmers can swim against the water currents pulling you inside.

In a riptide can’t you just float out, most people drown trying to resist
