Going to Southeast Asia? Which country?
Plans have changed drastically. We're actually first heading straight to your neck of the woods first. Flying from Detroit to Helsinki. Then we're taking a bus over to a city in the most sanctioned country in the world, St. Petersburg.

Mr. Putin made a decree on September 1st allowing for people from a whole bunch of countries to obtain temporary residence on a Shared Values Private Visa. We gotta go to Houston in person to apply for the visa, which gives us 3 months to enter, then once we're there we have a month to apply for 3 year temporary residency. There is no limit on how many people can apply for residency under this program. There are no language or knowledge tests. We'll be able to have free healthcare immediately in Russia as well as the right to work. And after only eight months we'll have the right to apply for permanent residency if we can pass the Russian language, history and law exam.

I'm kind of sick of living visa to visa. It was fun during my 20's and early 30's, and I could defy still do it again someday, but now with a family I'd like to have a place outside of America to call home. Residency in the largest country in the world with decent houses only a 45 minute drive from the center of the capital going for $24,000 is just too good to pass up.

I think the border is closed. You have to go via Estonia to Russia.

I haven't been to Russia nor I have plans to visit. Was in Japan for some weeks just before. Great country. Quiet, clean, polite people.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look into it.

We'll head to Japan one day. I heard the Japanese are really getting sick of tourists recently for not behaving. Heard they even banned folks on tourist visas from entering certain areas in select cities like Kyoto.

Yeah, for sure. Japan is very clean, safe country with quiet people. Some tourists are loud and they litter. No wonder Japanese get mad of overtourism. I understand it very well.
