A man with a cane standing at a bus stop turned just in time to see his death.
The 60-year-old man looked back because he heard the engine of a Jeep Cheroke as the driver sped down Main Street. The pedestrian, wearing an unzipped Yankees jacket, stepped forward to try to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but he didn’t stand a chance.
In less than three seconds, the silver SUV slammed into him, dragging him about 20 feet before coming to a stop.
The fatal collision at about 10:08 a.m. Friday was captured on video by three private security cameras, footage that law enforcement officials are reviewing as part of their investigation. A law enforcement source provided the video to the Paterson Press.
