Kill me now.

Today was my first day at a job. I've worked in a warehouse before, but now I'm working in a takeaway. It's fucking terrible. I walked in, and nobody even knew I was coming except for the boss, who wasn't even there when I arrived. So I stand awkwardly in a corner. I'm nt and fairly low inhibition, but I felt like fucking imploding (Im not low inhib enough to just walk into the kitchen and start asking for the boss). After a while some ugly prick came over and asked what I was doing. I said "it's my first day, and I'm not sure what I'm meant to do." To which he replied, "Yeah, you need to speak to the boss." Like, no fucking shit, you stupid cunt, I wasn't just standing here to look cool. Finally the boss arrives and tells me to work on making boxes, and to no surprise, I did them wrong.

Yes, he made me do boxes with no past experience and expected me to know to put a thin sheet of paper in the bottom of them. He comes over and says to me, "Why are you doing it like that?" I then said, "Well, you asked me to make boxes, and I don't know how to do it." He then sighed and asked if I could work. On Christmas Eve, I said no, to which he sighed again and walked away. I was then standing by myself as other employees all around my age, within a range of 5-10 years or so, laughed and whispered under their breaths. I've never felt like such a fucking outcast.

As the day went on, I was given no help and left to my own devices in a work environment I'm not used to. I tried to make myself as useful as possible, but everything I seemed to do was laughed at. and not a friendly laugh, but a condescending laugh, and the boss couldn't give the first shit. I continued trying, though, and I lost it when I walked past this 30-year-old man and he uttered "fucking useless" under his breath. I'm someone who's not afraid of confrontation in the slightest, but this just made me feel like complete shit. So I went to my car and sat for 15 minutes, came back, and said I went on my break. Once again I continued trying, but nothing seemed to work. It then got to the end of my shift, and I left feeling like a fucking fool. These people made me feel stupid for not knowing how to work a minimum-pay takeaway job. I'm there again tomorrow, so I hope it goes better.

I want to know if this is something that usually happens in these workplaces?
