Disclaimer:

I am no expert in anything, i am experimenting with things myself take this thread with a pinch of salt

1. Lack of Scientific Evidence

  • There is no credible, peer-reviewed research proving that mewing can significantly change bone structure, especially in adults.
  • After puberty, your craniofacial bones are largely fused. Significant reshaping without surgery is nearly impossible.
  • The “before-and-after” photos that the Mews and influencers show are mostly anecdotal and often involve teenagers still going through pubertal growth spurts, where natural changes are misattributed to mewing.

2. Misunderstanding the Role of the Tongue

  • The maxilla (upper jaw) is a bone; it’s not “held up” by the tongue.
  • What supports and stabilizes the maxilla are surrounding bones, facial muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues, not just tongue posture.
  • Proper tongue posture does have minor benefits for oral function and nasal breathing, but its impact on skeletal structure is minimal to negligible after adolescence.

3. What really matters

  • Obviously your facial structure is mainly genetic but there are some things which you can do to reach your full potential and one of them is having a proper posture

  • the one you see on the left is more accurate posture according to fm alexendar it helps your maxilla lean forward and have a more open airway to breath properly
p.s. many point mentioned in this thread are based on insights from this video
