Growing up, I spent most of my childhood at my grandparent's house. They had a house and a big garden.

They, and my grandma in particular, always showed nothing but love to me. Both of them kinda spoiled me early on.

So anyway, one day there was a fairly big spider on the wall. He was just minding his own business and I was just staring at him.

My grandma got annoyed at him, she took a sandal and smashed him to the wall. She killed the spider, and he left a big mark on the white wall.

I remember even at that young age wondering: "would my grandparents kill me too if I was just a spider? Why does she love me but not the spider?".

Thats pretty much my first concious memory. That line of thought made me extremely sad and confused for a week.
