So I recently started accutane and after sometime I definitely noticed some dry lips and dry nose. I'm curious however to what I see lots of people talk about with some of the other issues such as libido issues, joint pain, and hair shedding. Is this a causation for concern? Should I continue with this or should I try to fix my skin another way? I started out on 10mg a day as I see lots of people talk about success with low dose. Yesterday I only took 5. Part of me wants to blast it at like 20-40 to speed this up but maybe I just need some patience lmao. Anyone whos done extensive research I'd love to hear suggestions. Thanks.

Maybe Cause of androgen receptor downrwgulation
And other shit but not significant enough so i guess its just placebo or its something else and your blaming it on acc

microdose it 5 mg
no sides apart from dryness
and would take the same time to clear out acne

It downregulates androgen receptors?

Nevermind. Just went through pubmed and it downregulates skin androgen receptors. Wanted to make sure it wouldn’t effect my roiding lmao

Still your losing like 2.5-5%

Accutane was weird shit to me. I sat on a 20mg dosage for a total of a few years without the slightest side effects (except dry lips), then stopped. A year ago I decided to go back on the 10mg dose - and was hit with bone-chilling fatigue, hair loss, and anhedonia. Still don't understand what the fuck happened. But generally it's safe.

currently on 40mg a day, started getting dry nose/ lips 2 weeks in, 10 weeks in and the sides are getting better.

Have def started getting some joint pain

possibly down regulation of test as well (via vit d receptor down regulation, which has downstream anti- androgenic effects). I also go to the gym quite a lot, and I've noticed significantly more fatigue.

Other than that 40mg is pretty good, I mega dose vit d and take ungodly amounts of omega 3 fish oil, so far most of my acne has resolved, blackheads are gone. My pores are still quite big though, just waiting for them to decrease in size, will probably stay on for another 5-6 months and then cruise

I put off getting on accutane for years cuz "muh side effects", just try 20-40mg for 3 weeks, if you get sides that are unbearable than hop off - ur sides will go away in a few days. Its not like taking accutane for a few weeks will kill you, everything is easily reversible.

Got you yeah. I’ve been on 10mg for a little now and most I’ve dealt with is dry nose and dry lips. I don’t think my mental is thrown off from it and my joints are…well fucked but not cause of accutane

Nothing ever happens. I've been on accutane for 2 months and 1 week and I literally have almost no side effects at all. It literally hasn't done ANYTHING :feelswah:

Valid concerns but common symptoms. My dryness went away after a while of consistent use of moisturizer, and lip balm as necessary.

You’re running a low dose so you shouldn’t be worried about effects on libido, joints, or hair because if you did experience any effects they would be very mild given the dose you take. Worrying about these things only creates a nocebo effect (look into this).

Continue dosing as prescribed, you’ll see results soon. Messing with dosing because of overthinking will impede progress. If you quit you’ll see no progress.

And yeah, taking a higher dose will speed it up, but you risk more sides. Personally? I recommend it. The literature still considers 20-30mg as a low dose (upper end of low dose however).

I took the risk and ended up fine. But my experience isn’t necessarily what you would have, so it’s something you should think about first.

Awesome. I actually took 20mg today so double what I’ve been doing daily as I said. I decided since I’m not taking any orals why not. Still using NAC and TUDCA
