Repost from a comment I made but I figured it was worth its own thread,

ADHD

Yeah I believe it's the result of cell phones, TV, modern sugary ass foods, and an overall lack of drive caused by the above. Instant gratification will halt progress and prevent our modern geniuses from doing anything valuable. If you can sit on your ass and act like "I can't pay attention" instead of doing the work why wouldn't you? And our society encourages it, the "ADHD" kids at my school don't even try, when we are given test they go to another room and get help from teachers, 3 answer choices instead of 4, and on homework packets half the answers are already filled in. Seriously. It's encouraged to not try your hardest and it's going to bite us in the ass soon enough.

Of course some kids will truly have a lack of focus their whole lives and it can be genetic, but the vast majority are the result of social conditioning.

Any ADHDcels have an opinion about this?

hm I think a doctor once said I may have ADHD and told me to follow up but I never really did, this was back in middle school. I have generalized anxiety trouble tho:hnghn:

Yeah generalized anxiety seems to the rise as well, I don't have a theory on this. My brother has terrible social anxiety though, and his dependence on drugs hasn't helped, drugs exasterable all of these kinds of problems, he's basically 4 years behind in mental development in my opinion, however I'm willing to admit he's still smarter than me regardless, just not in a social context. Poor guy can barely hold himself together on a phone call :feelsohgod:

I know i have ADHD cause my case is severe and had very obvious symptoms since being a kid, but this was completely before electronics were around as well. My father also has very obvious adhd symptoms. People don't realize how real ADHD looks like.

God i wish there was a way to actually diagnose it from brain scans or something so i can shut up everyone on it jfl

I don't deny it can be genetic man, I just don't think the majority of ADHDcels are the result of genetics.

ADHD is real but just WAY over diagnosed. Of course a 7 year old kid is gonna not pay attention to boring ass school work, he wants to be playing with fire truck toys and tag on the play ground and watching cool action packed cartoons. Altho now with how TV and technology is, i do think such overstimulation from as early as your cnsciounse of the world, will cause many more real cases of ADHD

I have talked to many people during my highschool years about adhd without mentioning i have it, and literally all of them would say "omg this sounds like me", no it doesn't bitch, you very obviously don't have adhd and have zero clue how crippling it actually is.

People who have the hyperactive adhd type are very noticeable in their personality, they act like legit squirrels on crack when they talk, raising eyebrows alot, being very over expressive in their facial movements, having super bad short term memory, extremely reluctant to sleep early.

There is this famous tiktok girl that has adhd and makes videos about it, she is actually legit, just watching one of her videos will give you a picture of how it looks like.

Ryan Higa is also an example of a person that actually has very obvious ADHD

Yeah true ADHD is quite clear and I've met some guys who I definitely could not attribute it do envirmemtal factors, however most of the dudes at my school have adhd exclusively during class :feelskek:

If you really want to know if you have adhd for example and not just self coping, there is a very smart symptom that will prove it. For example, do you finish any tv series, movie, single player video game, or music video that you start? If yes then you don't have ADHD, it just means you are coping and don't want to do things that don't interest you like school.

For example for my case, i have NEVER finished a tv series or video game cause my dopamine short circuits and just gets bored half through and i go to the next thing, no matter how good the game or series is, i will jump from one thing to another never satisfied

Yeah I have this to a lesser degree for sure, but I don't remember having it before, it's a recent development. Which makes me think it's definitely environmental and the consequence of my actions.

Also the use of stimulants like adderall, Vyvanse and whatnot will literally destroy your concentration. You are dialed in for 4-8 hours and the rest the time you are distracted and when you stop taking them it is far more difficult to recover from and more detrimental than the typical instant gratification I've referred to. My doctor literally gave me Vyvanse because I said I didn't enjoy school, seriously, that's it. He didn't think I had ADHD, I never told him I did, and my concentration off the drug took a huge drop. After researching I realized this was fucking absurd and I needed a new doctor.

I agree for the most part that ADHD is nurture. There are cases of genetic ADHD. But for the most part, it's simple downregulation of the receptors.

I think TikTok and other short-form content is the biggest contributor. Things such as movies, and even long youtube videos weren't that big of a problem. Instagram has 1 minute caps on videos, Snapchat has 1 minute caps, Tiktoks are usually 15 seconds. Vine was 5 seconds. In combination with the algorithms they have in place, it really does fuck with the dopamine centers of your brain. This is not even considering depression and other mental illnesses that have been strongly linked with social media and internet use.

All of this just adds to the sugar + fat food environment. It's all just a recipe for disaster.

The experiences of those with "ADHD" are real though. With mental illnesses, you do feel the effects. Loss of focus, concentration, motivation, etc. And it's not like those with it can just choose to focus. They fucked up their brain. It's like depressed people; truly depressed people cannot chose to be not depressed.

Generally, we treat most things incorrectly. Stimulants such as Ritalin, Adderall, Vyvanse, etc, all act in the same way. Long term, the most damage is to the cardiovascular system, and not the brain. I take Adderall daily because I'm depressed, and it did help with all aspects of life. He gave it to me because I was about to fail out of school due to those adhd-like symptoms. But I recognize this is just a bandaid, which I know will eventually go away. Getting rid of TikTok is the best thing I have done. If you check your usage of TikTok compared to your mood, you can generally see a trend. Most Americans don't connect the dots and just listen to whatever the white labcoat says, but there is a fix to the madness.

Good take, glad I never downloaded that shitty app :feelskek:

Very few kids were diagnosed with ADHD years ago and put on medication etc. A lot of the old boomers say that diagnosis only popped up when people stopped whipping their kids with a belt for getting out of control.

There are definitely a lot more cases of severe autism now than years ago even if people want to claim some of the more mild cases are just a BS diagnosis.

Back in the good old days, a child would be beat with a ruler if they tried to pull muh adhd.

I think max 1% of the population actually has a disorder keeping them from concentrating properly and they'll need a revised education to help them but most people with adhd are just lazy and need a good beating.
