When was the last time you clicked an ad? I can assure you, most people HATE ads.
Adblockers would not exist if people liked ads & advertising actually worked.
As you know most major advertising is less about product discovery & more about reminders.
As in you are being REMINDED of what you are supposed to get, not being introduced.
Ads/commercials are like family sending you postcards in the old days reminding of things.
Therein lies the truth: advertising is mostly nannying. It's not marketing products; it's REMINDING.
It's money paid to REMIND YOU of what you should/need to to, like your parents doing it.
If the overwhelmingly majority of people hate mostly all ads & use adblockers & etc.
Then advertising in its ORIGINAL INTENTION AND UNDERSTANDING DOES NOT IN FACT WORK.
Advertising has always been correlated more with BRAINWASHING & NANNYISM AT ITS CORE.
It's not about "a business paying to advertise" as much as "a corporate entity paying to remind."
And yes they still do local ads but those're moot as any successful local business = elite-backed.
That is, there's no small business that can afford "airtime" unless it's part of the social problem.
REAL small business have to resort to papers, word of mouth, etc. And trust me, it's usually subpar.
Any big corporation paying for "ads" is really paying for reminder notes & social fabric entwining.
They are paying to make you aware & up to speed on the current climate & operational tactics.
They are NOT paying to have you know they got a product as much as just EMOTING you.
They're using entertainment, culture/ideas & their own social glue to attune you to "modernity."
It's not about the product to the elites ... It's about the message that wraps around the product.
Anyone new to advertise has something to advertise that almost nobody will want...
People already know what they want & where they get it. If you're new, you're likely not it.
So advertising really is about capitalism -- it's about captivating a nice idea to a con.
A way to promote a trend or idea or culture that gives semblance to what people inhabit.
NOBODY LIKES ADS. ADS DO NOT REALLY WORK. MOST PEOPLE JUST LOOK FOR WHAT THEY WANT. THEY DON'T NEED ADS FOR THIS EVER.
ONLINE, PEOPLE FIND WHAT THEY WANT BY LOOKING. RARELY DOES AN AD FIND WHAT YOU WANT. IT ONLY REMINDS YOU OF THE PAST.
ADS TARGET BASED ON WHAT YOU ALREADY WANT, SO THEY'RE ONLY -- ONCE AGAIN -- REMINDING. RE-SHOWING. PUSHING. CONFORMING.
NOT TEACHING. NOT MAKING AWARE. THEY ARE BASICALLY JUST REMINDING YOU OF THE ORDER; THE PAST; THE FABRIC OF CULTURE.
