The main thing I want to know is whether braces will pull back my lower maxilla, because compared to my recessed upper maxilla it is way too forward grown + my top and bottom sets of teeth slightly protrude outwards meaning my lips jut out further, making me look even extra forward grown and overall just giving me this chimp pheno side profile :feelswhy::feelswhy::feelswhy:

Outside of that I’ve seen a lot of discourse on here about how braces either ascend you like crazy or completely fuck up your face by making you look completely different, especially with the jaw/chin and make you giga recessed etc etc

I dont think any of that is worth harmonising my upper+lower maxilla for, so let me know if any of that shit is true, and if it is true does it at least make my ramus appear less sloped and taller (theoretically if it does “pull the jaw back” in the process of aligning your teeth/bite this should be the visual effect no?)

If you want to see what I look like for reference/to give specific advice I have a shitload of threads with my face I can’t be bothered to post pics here go find them please bhai i neeeed thiisss

Small two parter question for the real high IQ users; how do you improve ONLY upper maxilla (preferably proven ways to do it but also give hardmaxx and potentially cope methods if thats the only way), and does forward growth of the upper maxilla make the “shaft” of the nose appear wider?

Im going to bed now I can’t wait to wake up to 0 replies

Do you have malocclusion or crooked teeth? Post lateral ceph.

It might just be the teeth protruding or being proclined. Possible your jaws are both still recessed. Would need x-ray to confirm.

That combined with poor posture could give the illusion you're describing where your lower maxilla is more forward.

DNR most of it but I read a bit of the first part about lower part being more forward grown than top half of jaw. Braces can fix this yes, I had this exact thing where I had a very slight underbite, and I got it fixed with invisalign (still wearing braces rn) and its given slight noticable change in my jaw protrusion. It did not receed me though, it just receeded me from the underbite to the point I look normal.

Not necessarily lower jaw, but lower maxilla

I dont have an underbite its just the lower maxilla is very forward grown making my chin and upper maxilla look extra recessed

I think sadly what I have isn’t very common

And for those reading this thinking I’m talking about lower jaw (mandible) when I say lower maxilla, this is basically what I mean by lower maxilla

(Pretty much what I mean, but the area I need to be less forward grown is slightly more than is covered on this diagram)

You may have to ask your orthodontist about this in specific then. Just keep in mind that braces usually are a form of tool to prevent deformities in face, not reverse them. In rare cases they can reverse minor deformities like slight recession or slight forward-grown jaw but I doubt it can change the entire maxilla. The maxilla is a very hard area to change unless with direct surgery.

The braces can pull to backwards?

get opinion of different orthodontists
what you’re saying is only done through surgery but retractive braces can make your maxilla recessed with extraction
Do Invisalign or damon braces

Okay listen, do not let them extract your teeth first of all, and if u avoid elastics u won’t be retracted. Dnr though, prolly gonna need FME or ease

I kind of want to be retracted tho :lul:

Because of pheno my mouth protrudes a lot making my lower maxilla look over projected compared to my upper maxilla

I want to fix the over projection issue by somehow making my mouth less protruding

That’s bimaxilary protrusion, that can be fixed, retraction has no positives or benefits.
