It is super energy intensive and consequently expensive as hell and it is also inefficient but… it still gets the job done and the fact that it exists is kind of crazy! Being able to live in the desert is entirely feasible because of it—although small groups of people did live in deserts far longer than A/C came into existence.

it's possible to build structures in the desert that provides passive cooling and temperature equalization without mechanical air conditioning. it's just more effort than installing an ac unit
