Being surrounded by people doesn't necessarily eliminate loneliness lol. Some people feel their most alone in a crowd.

Addictions arent from physical isolation, but from emotional loneliness. People turn to drugs as a way to numb the pain(jfl) or escape emptiness. Even social drug use can be a symptom of inner loneliness masked by external company.
