They have measured height studies and data so that they can be truly accurate and people cant mess up the data with self reporting. Most of the data on wikipedia about average height for countries is good. But I think its easy to feel like youe shorter than everyone especially because if you are young and live in a well off area, average height will be higher than the national average. So even though you may be the average height in your country, you are below average for your area.
