I was merging onto a highway during busy traffic. The truck in front of me was also merging but was going ONLY 45mph while traffic was flowing at 70+. There was a semi approaching very fast in the right lane behind me, I signaled again to go to the left lane (to avoid the semi) but had to accelerate very hard to avoid a collision with a pickup truck. I noticed the situation and downshifted multiple times and took off with my bike and accelerated pretty quickly. As I did so I saw the semi nearly hit the truck I was originally behind.
I ride a R1. It’s fairly quick so the downshift and acceleration quickly got me up to speed. It was in heavy traffic and I had a pickup on my ass so I didn’t want to just slam on my brakes so I had just let off the gas. A trooper lasered me at supposedly 137 mph. I pulled off and he talked w me and gave me my ticket.
The ticket says I have to appear in court. It says: Traffic: Heavy Location: Entrance Ramp Vehicle: Yamaha R1 (not my make and model) Violation: 137mph in a 75. 10% or over
I know that heavy traffic does affect tickets but it directly proves why I was going so fast. Additionally I’ve heard about tickets getting throw out due to incorrect information. (my bike being incorrectly listed) My insurance lists it as a R6 (which is a 600cc bike, I ride a 1000cc R1 originally, which is much much faster than a R6 like by a big margin) but I’m not sure how well that’d help out.
ALSO: I was VERY low on gas with the car beeping at me for it. I would never speed for fun with the lack of gas I had. Once I got home I took a picture of the gas warning and the ticket in frame to prove the date and time.
So what exactly should I do? Could a court throw it out due to its misinformation? Could I get safe driving course to throw it out? Do I need to lawyer up? How well will my telling of what happened hold up? (sadly no dash cam)
this is my first ticket so im pretty worried and my parents do not know yet since I know i will be in loads of trouble
court date is set in about 20 days
