I'm sure other people experience this but..

Does anyone else respond slowly or with a dumb answer when someone unexpectedly asks you a question when you aren't paying attention? I'll usually respond very shortly or just something simple. Are you guys able to meaningfully respond to someone that you don't fully know when they ask you something off guard?
