... exited the subway turnstiles.

At first I didn't understand her because there was a lot of background noise from the trains' rumble below. So I stopped, lowered my head towards her, and asked her to repeat.

When she asked again "are you from here?" I reflexively said "no, no" and kept walking. She said "ok" and quickly disengaged.

I lied to her (I am from New York) because I was in a bad mood and didn't want to be bothered giving directions to a stranger. But, I'm curious. Was she soft-approaching me? I did happen to look good at that moment (I was debloated).

Well some foids stopped me to ask for directions, happened two times but I don't think it means much.

Maybe, the fact that I wasn't ugly (at that moment) made her feel safe to ask me for directions.
