Anglos have a large grip on the Middle East mainly because of realpolitik policies, securing trade routes and oil. They have Saudi and Egypt on a whip under the guise of economic cooperation, they've blown out Iran's economy by sanctions and intervened in Libya, Afghanistan and Syria. They fund and resource the Israeli state which acts as a foreign mercenary on behalf of them, they can basically commit a genocide in the open and nobody can do anything about it.

It reminds me of a parallel between the EIC when they ruled South Asia, it was back when spices were valuable (how oil is valuable now). Some princely states (autonomous regions) like Travancore and Hyderabad benefited from cooperating with the EIC whilst directly controlled regions like Bengal and the United Provinces were devastated by man made famines. Any attempt of rebellions were suppressed by locals themselves acting on the behalf of the EIC, if you even thought about rebelling you were thrown in jail.

The EIC established significant control in the subcontinent through military coups, forming local alliances and manipulating local politics. Similar to how they've gained a tight grip in the Middle East today.
