Any tips on how to get good on an electric guitar?

I got an electric guitar for my birthday. I had to become like Saul Goodman to convince my parents to buy me it. But I was wondering if you guys had any advice on how to get good on it? I haven't opened the guitar box yet btw

I was stuck between a stratocaster and a les paul but the stratocaster looked cooler so i got that one.
