Selling ebooks can be profitable, now depends what is it about, if you think about selling some money making ebooks then you must make it really good, if you want to make sales then give people enough proof on earnings, what is it about and let them see some good feedbacks, without that you won't be able to make a single sale.

He's selling you how to sell, that's his business. Not selling books, but selling the act of selling books to others. Much the same with people telling you to pay for their course about dropshipping, e-commerce, etc. It pays to 'teach' people how to get paid.
