Anyone had positive experience with cutting their own hair

I've been using thinning shears and just cutting sections of my hair going off of instinct and am getting compliments but am worried I'll make myself a bald patch or some shit

What it is is risky, I’ve been scissor cutting my own hair for years because I have an unusual growth pattern and I don’t trust anyone else to work with it, I usually do a good job but the other day I fucked up and now it looks like special needs truecel dogshit, good thing it grows fast.
