When clenching (but softly!!!) u put pressure on your teeth and this pressure is transferred through temporalis, pterygoids, masseter and zygomatic muscles.
This type of constant muscle tension creates some sort of hard muscle foundation that really promotes upswinging movement.
The tongue only keeps things from meing affected by gravity
